Facts about foster care in the ACT

In March 2017, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare released their annual Child protection Australia publication. This reports that in 2015/16, 208 children entered out-of-home care in the ACT bringing the total number of children in out-of-home care for that year to 748. The table below shows a breakdown of both these figures by the age.

Not all children who enter out-of-home care live with foster carers. In the ACT, in 2015/16, 47% of children in out-of-home care were living with kin.
